LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday presided over a high level meeting to review law and order situation and the measures being taken for elimination of terrorism under the National Action Plan (NAP).
The meeting expressed satisfaction over the steps taken under the National Action Plan for curbing terrorism, extremism and sectarianism. Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said protection of life and property of the people was the top priority of the government and the Punjab government was taking all-out measures for this purpose. He said police should perform his duties efficiently for curbing criminal elements. He said supremacy of law should be ensured in the province and no effort should be spared for the provision of justice. He said the steps taken for eradicating terrorism and extremism under the National Action Plan were yielding positive results. He said in order to eliminate terrorism, extremism and sectarianism, amendments had been made in the law and punishments had been made more stringent. The CM directed the concerned institutions to continue indiscriminate action against banned organisations. He directed action should be continued indiscriminately against the publication and distribution of literature spreading religious hatred. He said the law regarding ban on use of loud speaker and graffiti should be strictly implemented. He said speeches promoting hatred were not tolerable and indiscriminate action should be taken against the elements involved in it. Shahbaz Sharif said there was no room for terrorism, extremism and sectarianism in the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the whole nation was united to eliminate terrorism from the country. He said indiscriminate and effective action would be continued against terrorists and their facilitators for completing the mission of restoring peace in the country. He said terrorism and extremism would be eradicated for setting up a peaceful society. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, IGP Mushtaq Sukhera, secretaries of Home, Public Prosecution and Information departments and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
