A treat for dance aficionados
Islamabad
Bringing another treat to the residents of the capital, the Asian Study Group (ASG) has organised a performance for those who enjoy classical dance today (Sunday) at 6 p.m.
The event will be held at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and feature Farah Yasmeen Shaikh, who is recognised for her powerful and evocative storytelling technical precision, delicacy and grace. She brings a clairvoyant voice to the contemporary stage whilst simultaneously maintaining the deep roots and traditional aspects of the classical dance form.
Trained for two decades by Kathak icon, the late Pandit Chitresh Das, Farah has been a lead dancer in the Chitresh Dance Company. She is now an internationally known soloist performing to sell out shows of her own original choreographic works. Most notably her 2015 premiere of the life of empress Noor Jehan through a full length performance of dance, music and multi- media and live narration. She is also developing her newest production based on the 1947 Subcontinent partition set to premiere in 2017.
Her performance will include classical and light classical pieces of 'Kathak'. It will be a combination of pure dance compositions, as well as the expressive elements of the dance and also some innovations within the Kathak tradition. Tickets are available at London Book Company, Kohsar Market. For further information contact: ASG Office 2802343 (Monday to Friday from 1 pm-4 pm) or 0333-5134622.
