LONDON: Pakistan and Essex leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has been cleared by the Essex Police here and has been released without charge after being arrested and interrogated in connection with alleged cricket betting irregularities.
Speaking to members of the Pakistani media here on Thursday, Kaneria thanked the police for releasing him without a charge and said that he was investigated about the allegations of spot fixing but never put under pressure. He thanked his club and the fans for standing by him during a stressful period.
Kaneria said that that the past few months were obviously very stressful time for him but he just wants put these unfounded allegations behind him and carry on with his cricket.
Danish Kaneria’s barrister Stephen Hourigan confirmed that the British Police have finished their investigations into the allegations concerning spot fixing and have concluded that there are no grounds on which to bring any charges against Danish Kaneria.
Kaneria said he was not involved in — or linked — to any of the other current allegations concerning other members of the Pakistan team.
