‘Jinnah Hospital burn unit to be made fully functional’

Adviser to the CM on Health Kh Salman Rafique has said solid steps are being taken to make the burn unit of Jinnah Hospital fully functional up to its capacity.
He stated this while chairing a meeting to review the progress to make the burn unit fully functional at Civil Secretariat on Monday. Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah, Additional Secretary Development Mehmood Hasan, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Mehmood Shaukat, Project Director Prof Moazzam Tarar and Medical Superintendent, Jinnah Hospital, Dr Shafqat attended the meeting.
Prof Moazzam Tarar informed that out of seven operation theaters, five are functional and 50 out of 75 beds are being utilised. He informed that in-door and out-door treatment of burn cases had been started in the burn unit, however, serious patients are not taken as the Intensive Care Unit is (ICU) yet to be made functional, for which anesthesia doctors are required. Prof Moazzam Tarar informed that SNE of 314 was approved out them 264 vacancies have been filled. Secretary Specialised, Healthcare and Medical Education, Najam Ahmad Shah directed the officers to create 10 seats of postgraduate trainees in anesthesia for the ICU of burn unit so it could be made functional as soon as possible. Kh Salman Rafique said the CM provided Rs 100 million special grant for the burn unit and PGRs post would be provided to start ICU of the Jinnah Burn Unit.
