‘Chaos in Afghanistan imperils Pakistan’

ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister and Chairman Institute of Research and Reforms (IRR) Senator Abdul Rehman Malik, has said the security situation in Afghanistan is chaotic which directly impacts Pakistan.

“Pakistan has already suffered a lot both in terms of loss of precious lives and huge devastation of infrastructure and economy due to the War on Terror and situation in Afghanistan,” he said while responding to questions of a delegation of Youth Council Pakistan including students from various universities across the country, on Wednesday, and was led by Muhammad Shehzad Khan.

Answering to questions by the students, Senator Abdul Rehman Malik said that the security and stability of the region is facing new challenges because of Afghanistan. He said that the United States left Afghanistan without a withdrawal strategy which would prove highly detrimental to regional peace and stability. He said that it would have been better had the United States formed an interim government before leaving Afghanistan. He said the US forces could not establish peace in Afghanistan and left without any stability. Malik said there is still time for the Afghan leadership to come together and form an interim government with consensus of all factions. Senator Rehman Malik asked President Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah to engage Taliban and all other factions in dialogue for peace in Afghanistan. The former interior minister asked the youth to play their vital role in nation-building and against drug abuse.
