This refers to the letter ‘Punishing the unvaccinated’ (July 26) by Dr Najeeb Khan. The number of fully vaccinated people in Pakistan is a little over five million, which is quite low. To control the spread of the more-lethal Delta variant, the country needs to vaccinate an even larger number of people. There is no doubt that vaccines play an important role in protecting people against the virus.
However, Pakistan has reported a few cases where even fully vaccinated people have also contracted the virus, but they have observed relatively less severe symptoms. Healthcare experts should start a public awareness campaign and inform people about the efficacy of the vaccines.
