This refers to the article ‘A metropolis in crisis’ by Abdul Sattar (July 24). The writer has aptly described the problems faced by residents of Karachi. However, the writer mentioned that the city’s population is over 14.9 million. It is widely believed that the current figure of 14.9 million is understated – the latest injustice done to the city. This figure allowed the authorities to reduce the city’s share in the national resources. Also, this misrepresentation reduced Karachi’s seats in parliament. It also allowed the PPP to enjoy control in the city even though the party is not popular in the city.
To address this grave injustice, the PTI government had promised to hold a fresh national census. However, it seems that the ruling party is also not interested in tackling the city’s issues. Should we hope for some Divine intervention that can keep the city back on the road to prosperity and progress?
