The Karachi police on Monday arrested two suspected terrorists of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for their alleged involvement in various incidents, including attacks on the military.
The arrests were made by the Steel Town police. The arrested suspects have been identified as Saifullah (aliases Mohsin and Saddam Hussain) and Hazrat Bilal, alias Bilal. Police said the suspects were associated with the TTP’s Sajna group and had joined the terrorist organisation in 2013.
The spokesperson for the Malir police said the suspects had received training in Afghanistan. He said the police have also recovered sub-machine guns, hand grenades and other arms and ammunition from the suspects.
Police said the suspects used to extort money in the name of the TTP and later handed over the collection to Sajna group commander Fakharuddin, alias Malang. Officials said that suspect Saifullah has admitted to torching a container loaded with Nato supplies in Karachi’s Manghopir area in 2013, adding that after setting the container on fire, he had fled to the Shawal area.
Police said the suspect has admitted to carrying out attacks on the Pakistan Army in Shawal, along with his accomplices. Officials said the suspects also brainwashed the youth in Manghopir into joining the TTP, adding that they were also involved in extortion and robberies.
