Three Covid-19 deaths, 194 cases in a day in twin cities

Rawalpindi: The number of patients being tested positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 in this region of the country is on a tremendous increase for the last two weeks while the positivity rate of the infection has also jumped to well over five per cent in Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district showing the fourth wave of the outbreak is all set to hit the region.

In the last two weeks, as many as 1,872 new patients have been reported from the twin cities of which well over 1,000 cases have been diagnosed with the infection in the last six days showing that the outbreak is getting more and more intense with the passage of every day.

In the last 24 hours, 194 new patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 from ICT and Rawalpindi while the virus has claimed another three lives from the twin cities taking death toll to 1789 on Wednesday. The total number of patients so far reported from the region has reached 109333.

It is important that the positivity rate of COVID-19 was recorded as 6.5 per cent in the federal capital in the last 24 hours while in Rawalpindi, it turned out to be 5.25 per cent.

Data collected by ‘The News’ on Wednesday reveals that another two patients died of COVID-19 from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking death toll from the district to 1,003 while 69 new patients were tested positive from the district taking tally to 25,377. To date, a total of 23,923 patients belonging to Rawalpindi have recovered from the illness.

On Wednesday, there were a total of 451 active cases of the infection from Rawalpindi district of which 23 were admitted to the healthcare facilities while 428 were in home isolation.

Meanwhile, the virus claimed one more life from the federal capital taking death toll from ICT to 786 while 125 new patients were tested positive taking tally to 83,956 of which 81451 had already recovered. The number of active cases of the disease from ICT was 1,719 on Wednesday after addition of 66 active cases to the existing pool.
