Fire breaks out at Upper Dir market
DIR: A fire broke out at a market in Sheringal bazaar in Upper Dir district early Saturday.
According to locals and police, the fire broke out at 4:15am at Hawai Market in Sheringal bazaar. It was learnt that more than fifty wooden shops and goods worth millions were destroyed by the fire.
Police sources said that the fire erupted due to short-circuiting.
Dozens of locals rushed to the market and participated in the rescue operation with the help of local police and Levies force personnel when they came to know about the fire eruption.
The local people alleged that they tried contacting Rescue 1122 on the phone but no one received the call.
The owners of shops and hundreds of residents protested against the Rescue 1122 and other authorities for want of a fire-brigade vehicle in Sheringal tehsil.
They asked the deputy commissioner to provide a fire-brigade vehicle to Sheringal.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Sheringal Shuhail Ahmad visited the market and assured the owners that a report would be sent to the high-ups about the losses.
