50-member NET formed to crackdown on drug peddlers

MARDAN:The police on Saturday formed a 50-member Narcotics Eradication Team (NET), and also foiled a drug trafficking bid in Toru area.

Briefing journalists at the inaugural ceremony of the special NET in Mardan, District Police Officer Dr Zahidullah Khan said that the 50-member team would crackdown on drug dealers, particular ice, and would also include two inspectors, four sub-inspectors, and 8 ASIs, besides other cops.

He said that he himself would supervise the NET in Mardan, which would be headed by DSP Saadat Khan.

“Under the IGP’s dir5ectives, the NET has been formed with Elite Force personnel and policewomen and also armed with modern weapons; they also have been given good motorbikes and vehicles for their operations,” he added.

He appealed to people to cooperate with the NET and purge the society of drugs, particularly ice.

Meanwhile, 4kg charas and 30 grams of ice were seized during a raid and a trafficker identified as Shahzad was arrested in Toru area.

The police said the accused was taking the drugs from Nowshera to Mardan district when got arrested.
