Cell phone smugglers nabbed at airport
PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested alleged smugglers at the Bacha Khan International Airport.
“The FIA Immigration staff received a tipoff that an active group of smugglers will try to smuggle expensive mobile phones/electronic devices from Dubai in connivance with Customs officials. Acting upon the information, the immigration officials were tasked with intercepting the group,” FIA Additional Director Sajjad Khan said.
The official said the group was intercepted and three members Muhammad Arif, Farooq and Wilayat Shah were arrested. He said on search, 10 mobile phones (08 iPhone 12, 02 Samsung ) and a Bitcoin machine were recovered from Muhammad Arif.
During the initial interrogation, the accused revealed that he had been helped by Customs Inspector Rizwan,” an official said.
He added two boxes full of mobile phones were reportedly kept by the Customs officials.
The official said a case was registered against Customs official Rizwan Shareef and arrested smugglers under the relevant sections of the law.
