Adoption of anti-journalists law in PA: PFUJ gives countrywide protest call tomorrow
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) has given countrywide protest call tomorrow (Monday) against the adoption of “Punjab Assembly Privilege Bill 2021” to punish journalists and media workers in Punjab, says a press release.
Decision was announced by President PFUJ Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi in a statement in which they asked all the UJs across the country to arrange protest gatherings and rallies against brutal piece of law which was adopted with consensus by all the political parties in Punjab Assembly which was tabled by PPP MPA Makhdoom Usman as private members Bill.
Apart from protest rallies, black flags would be fluttered at all the press clubs in the country, the statement said.
Meanwhile, while meeting with Rana Azim, Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that clauses in Bill against journalists were removed with consensus in Punjab Assembly.
He said a disciplinary committee is formed in this regard which will be led by Speaker. Representatives of journalists will be also part of this committee.
Pervez Elahi said that entry of all the journalists will be allowed as soon as the new building of Punjab Assembly is completed.
