LAHORE:The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the deputy commissioner to decide an application of a vegetable vendor who alleged that Raiwind police booked him for selling ‘cheap’ vegetables.
Vendor Muhammad Waqas filed a petition requesting the court to quash the FIR registered against him. He also sought registration of an FIR against the government officials. The petitioner’s counsel told the court that police previously registered four cases against his client on charges of selling vegetables on inflated prices and the fifth one for selling the vegetables on cheap prices. Raiwind Assistance Commissioner Adnan Rasheed, present in the court, stated that there had been a typographical error in the text of the FIR.
He said the petitioner was a habitual offender and the administration received a number of complaints of profiteering against him. Justice Ali Zia Bajwa disposed of the petition and directed the deputy commissioner to decide the matter as per the law. Meanwhile, the vendor secured pre-arrest bail from a sessions court. Additional District and Sessions Judge Sahir Islam restrained police from arresting the vendor till July 7.
