24 more succumb to Covid-19 in Sindh, another 622 cases reported

The novel coronavirus claimed 24 more lives in Sindh during the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,464 in the province. In the meantime, 595 patients infected by the novel coronavirus were under treatment at various hospitals, of whom the condition of 530 was said to be critical with 48 of them shifted onto life support.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah stated this on Wednesday in his daily statement on the pandemic situation in the province. He said that in addition to 24 deaths, 622 new cases of Covid-19 were detected during the previous 24 hours after 14,520 tests were conducted. With 5,464 deaths, the Covid-19 fatality rate in the province stood at 1.6 per cent, he added.

The CM explained that the diagnosis of 622 new patients through 14,520 samples constituted a 4.3 per cent current detection rate. He said that so far 4,506,973 tests for Covid-19 had been conducted in the province, against which 337,657 cases were detected, of which 92.6 per cent or 312,736 patients had recovered, including 399 during the previous 24 hours.

There were currently 19,457 patients of Covid-19 in Sindh, the CM said, adding that 18,802 of them were in home isolation, 595 at different hospitals and 60 in isolation centres. According to Shah, of the 622 new patients, 360 were diagnosed from Karachi, including 150 from District East, 72 from District Central, 60 from District Korangi, 33 from District South, 27 from District Malir and 18 from District West.

In the rest of Sindh, Hyderabad had 18 new cases, Dadu 17, Matiari 12, Qamber-Shahdadkot 11, Badin 10, Jamshoro six, Ghotki and Khairpur four each, Sukkur two, and Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Tharparkar had one new case each.
