It’s not her fault
I am appalled at our prime minister’s simplistic interpretation of rape. He must realise that his statements have a great impact on the country’s global image. He shouldn’t deflect responsibility for the country’s rising rape cases on victims. People are capable of acting on their own, which makes them responsible for their crimes. It is important for everyone to understand that rape is a crime which is motivated by power and control. It should be seen as an act of violence and must be punished accordingly. It is not a woman's fault if she is raped – and it is not a child's fault if he or she is raped. Statements that suggest that men in this conservative society do not have the willpower to resist raping women because of their dressing promote rape culture. The prime minister should stop justifying a criminal’s actions and call rape an act of violence.
