This refers to the news report, ‘NAP being used to target political opponents: Bilawal’ (December 28). Bilawal’s statements in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh are interesting considering the socio-political climate of the country. He argued that instead of targeting terrorists, the National Action Plan is being used as a tool for victimisation.
When Benazir Bhutto died in 2007, several PPP supporters and politicians pinned their hopes on a young Bilawal to carry on the legacy of his family. However, the PPP co-chairman has yet to prove himself to be an effective leader who can garner the support of people. The recent mayhem caused by his VIP protocol at a hospital in Karachi where he had gone to inaugurate the trauma centre led to the death of a 10-month-old child, and yet he still seems to feel the need to issue political statements about national policies. No one can be certain about what the future holds for this countrymen, but at this very moment, Bilawal is hardly in a position where he should be expressing such strong opinions about matters he may have limited knowledge of.
