LDA plans mega projects to solve traffic problems

LAHORE:To cope with traffic problems, LDA has planned to complete several mega projects in the provincial metropolis during the year 2021-22. A meeting was held under the chair of LDA DG here on Wednesday in which traffic problems and their solutions were discussed.

Chief Engineer, LDA, Mazhar Hussain briefed the meeting on the upcoming mega projects designed to resolve traffic issues. Mazhar Khan told the meeting that LDA has designed several mega projects including construction of underpasses at Karim Block Market and Akbar Chowk. He said a signal free corridor will be made to connect Ferozpur Road with Multan Road while remodelling of Chowk Yateem Khana and Scheme Morr will be done during the year. He told the meeting that Canal Road, Ichra and Muslim Town More junction will also be improved while Ring Road will be connected with Expo Center and Defence Road. Giving instructions on the occasion, DG Ahmed Aziz Tarar said that mega projects in the city should be completed at the earliest while ensuring transparency as per the vision of the CM. “Public money should be spent on ongoing projects for their benefit. Land acquisition and other construction issues should be completed in a very transparent manner,” he said. He said work on LDA City Scheme and LDA City New Pakistan Apartments project should be expedited.

Various bridges of the city including Data Nagar Bridge should be upgraded to overcome traffic problems while immediate steps should be taken for remodelling of Jail Road Underpass on Canal Road. Traffic problems should be solved by making Khalid Butt Chowk and Ghora Chowk signal-free and the condition of all U-turns on other roads of the city including Shami Road should also be improved to avoid accidents. Ahmed Aziz said a plan should be formulated to control traffic problems on Chowk Yateem Khana, Scheme Morr, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, Ferozepur Road, Qurtaba Chowk and Ichra areas.
