Budget for urban development increased

LAHORE:Punjab government has increased the budgetary allocation for Urban Development from Rs26.20 billion to Rs34.015 billion in the budget 2122. For this purpose, Rs30.049 billion has been allocated to Punjab (excluding South Punjab) whereas Rs3.966 billion was allocated for South Punjab.

The budgetary allocation of Rs3.966 billion including Rs1.877 billion for ongoing schemes and Rs2.089 billion for new schemes while for the rest of Punjab, the government allocated Rs21.507 billion for ongoing schemes and Rs8.541 billion for new schemes. The budget documents revealed that the foreign aid component in the budget 2021-22 in the ongoing schemes was Rs12.290 billion while no foreign aid component was present in the budgetary allocations for the year 2122 for South Punjab. The number of ongoing schemes in the budget for the year 2021-22 was 114 and the new schemes were 378.

An amount of Rs3.562 billion was allocated for important projects to be completed in the provincial metropolis during the year 2021-22. These projects included construction of eight sports complexes, widening of Aik Moria Pull, rehabilitation of road with street lights from Amir Chowk, college Road to Eden Chowk, rehabilitation of road from Amir Chowk to Link Baghrian Road, Construction of road along canal bank from Bahria town onward, construction of Canal Bank Road from Sundar to Manga Raiwind Road, Construction of flyover and At-grade improvement at Shahkam Chowk, Construction of flyover at Sheranwala gate and Construction of underpass at Gulab Devi hospital and additional lanes on Lahore Bridge, Ferozpur Road. An amount of Rs2 million was allocated for establishment of Quaid-e-Azam Institute of Horticulture and Landscape while Rs1.292 billion were allocated for Wasa Lahore to complete several projects including installation of water filtration plants on 105 tubewells, strom water drainage system from Haji Camp to River ravi, provision of clean drinking water in various localities of the city, improvement of sewerage system, replacement of outlived trunk sewer at various localities, construction of lift stations, replacement of pipelines.
