Senator seeks global strategy to halt hate attacks on Muslims
LAHORE: Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmad has warned that anti-Muslim bias with intent to murder is on the rise in the so-called civilized western countries that is evident from the premeditated murder of a Muslim family in Canada.
The Senate should urge the PTI government to ensure a roadmap to prevent hate attacks on Muslims in the West by making concerted efforts with other Muslim countries, he said in an adjournment motion tabled in the Upper House on Friday. Maqbool, in his motion, lamented that though the murderous attacks on innocent Muslims are on the rise, unfortunately its response is reduced to mere media condemnation rather than taking concrete action to stop recurrence of such incidents. He recalled that no exemplary action was taken against the perpetrators and no relief provided to the Muslim victims over the last two decades, necessitating an international strategy to arrest the growing violent attacks on Muslims.
He said the western countries need to be sensitized to honour the lives and properties of Muslims to maintain global peace and harmony.
