Protesting teachers call for salary hike
Government schoolteachers on Wednesday held a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club demanding 20 to 25 percent increase in their salary in the forthcoming fiscal year.
The rally was attended by schoolteachers from different districts of Sindh. The protestors chanted slogans against the provincial government. The teachers tried to move toward the Chief Minister House to convey their complaints. However, the police barred the protesters from advancing.
One of the protesters, Muhammad Imtiaz, said the protest was organised by the Sindh Government Employees Grand Alliance to demand increase in their salaries and allowances on the pattern of other provinces.
A three-member committee of the teachers met the chief secretary who agreed that a 13-member committee would be formed before the annual budget to resolve the issue. On his assurance, the protest was ended.
