NAB chairman lauds performance of Karachi Bureau
ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau, Karachi, got conviction of more than 332 persons in more than 123 cases with fine of billions of rupees from the Accountability Courts under Section 10 and 25 (b) of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999 in four years -- 2017 to 2021. Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal chaired a meeting to review the performance of NAB Karachi, especially convictions made under Section 10 of National Accountability Ordinance (NAO)-1999 and under Section 25 (B) of the NAO-1999 during the year 2017 to 2021 at NAB Headquarters. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman NAB Hussain Asghar, Prosecutor General Accountability (PGA) Syed Asghar Haider, DG Operations NAB Zahir Shah and other senior officers of NAB while DG NAB Karachi Dr Najaf Quli Mirza attended the meeting via video link.
Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal appreciated the excellent performance of NAB Karachi under the supervision of Dr Najaf Quli Mirza, DG NAB Karachi. During the meeting, Dr Najaf Quli Mirza informed that during the 1st Quarter of 2021, 53 persons were convicted by different Accountability Courts of Karachi under Section 10 of NAO-1999. During the year 2020, due to the efforts of NAB Karachi, 24 persons were convicted by different Accountability Courts under Section 10 of NAO-1999. The DG NAB Karachi also informed the meeting that during the year 2018, 72 persons were convicted by different Accountability Courts under Section 10 of NAO-1999. Similarly, during 10th October to 31 December 2017, 13 persons were convicted by different Accountability Courts under Section 10 of NAO-1999.
Moreover, Dr Najaf Quli Mirza told the meeting that during the 1st Quarter of 2021, three persons were convicted by different Accountability Courts under Section 25(b) of NAO-1999. During the year 2020, 32 people were convicted by different Accountability Courts under Section 25(b) of NAO-1999.
