Provincial govt to be informed today that Rangers are a federal
institution and its powers well laid out in relevant laws

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has maintained that the Sindh government cannot slash the powers of Rangers and this point will be conveyed to the provincial government today (Tuesday) in a formal reply to its letters on the issue to the Centre.

The sources said the federal government understood that the Rangers was a federal institution and the provincial government could not clip its powers. They also said that the Rangers’ operation against terrorists and target killers would continue.

They said it was imperative to take this operation to its logical conclusion. They said that the letters of the Sindh government showed that the provincial government intended to cut the powers of Rangers while these powers had been clearly laid out in relevant laws.

They said that no provincial government could clip the powers of a federal institution, adding that all the efforts would be made to restore sustainable peace in Karachi, the centre of economic activities in the country.

They said that the operation was started when all the parties expressed trust in it and it could not be left incomplete on the wishes of a single party.
