65pc Sindh population is dependent on agro-based economy: Shah

SUKKUR: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said that the province is agro-based and agriculture is the major sector as 65 percent population is dependent on agro-based economy.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Khairpur College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology here on Sunday.

He said that earlier European countries had banned the export of cotton because of some technical reasons of inputs and quality, but his government resolved their concerns by improving the quality of cotton.

He said that his government was focusing on textile industries and in this connection some initiatives have been taken. He said that professional degree awarding universities and colleges need dedicated and professionals to meet the European demands. The chief minister said that the Sindh government was focusing on getting better production of cotton, sugarcane and wheat and added that Punjab was offering Rs180 per mound of sugarcane to growers while the farmers of Sindh demanded two rupees more.
