Mamnoon lauds CIIT for scaling new heights with every passing day

Congratulating the graduating students of Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday said that it was a proud moment for them as well as their parents, as they had achieved their goal of getting a degree from a reputed institution, which was constantly scaling new heights with every passing day.
Addressing the 82nd convocation of CIIT at the Jinnah Convention Centre, the chief guest on the occasion, was greatly impressed by this news and congratulated Rector CIIT on “crossing this milestone”.
729 graduate and postgraduates were awarded degrees. The degrees were awarded to 489 BS, 215 MS and 25 PhD graduates in the disciplines of bioinformatics, biosciences, business administration, computer engineering, telecommunication engineering, electronics, mathematics and architecture.
In all, 729 students of CIIT‘s Islamabad campus received their degrees, which included PhDs, which were awarded to 25 students; 10 in Mathematics; six in Physics; five in Biosciences; and one each in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Management Sciences and Meteorology.
The Institute’s Report was presented by CIIT Rector Dr. SM Junaid Zaidi who gave an overview of CIIT’s programmes and accomplishments. The highlight of the Report was surpassing the figure of 1,000 impact factor research publications, making CIIT the first and only seat of higher learning in the entire country to have achieved this unique distinction so far.
Dr. SM Junaid Zaidi said educational institutions were transforming society and helping the country face challenges of globalization, adding that in the present era only those nations that developed their human resources would progress. He emphasized the role of youth in nation-building and advised the graduating students to follow the principles of honesty, sincerity and truthfulness and to work for the progress and well-being of Pakistan.
Graduate and postgraduate students with the highest CGPA bagged their medals in their respective degree programmes. Three students -- Amna Siddiqui, Bakhtawar Noor and Zainab Raja -- received both the Institute as well as the Campus Gold Medals, while Campus Gold Medals were awarded to Kinza Izhar, Nagina Kanwal, Tooba Khan, Imtiaz ur Rehman, Umar Nawaz Khan and Wardah Mahmood.
The recipients of the Campus Silver Medal were: Anam Sultan Ali, Sundus Mumtaz, Muhammad Ahson Khalid, Mehwish Mehmood, Saad Anis and Amnah Amjad Biag.
In addition, Campus Bronze Medals were awarded to Tayyaba Tassadaq Raja, Faiza Sharif and Syed Hassan Abbas Rizvi
Federal Minister for Science & Technology & Chancellor CIIT, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Executive Director, COMSATS and Chairman Board of Governors of CIIT, Dr Imtinan Elahi Qureshi, also graced the ceremony, in addition to CIIT campus directors, deans and heads of departments.
