LONDON: Reham Khan’s former husband Dr Ijaz Rehman has sent former wife of Imran Khan Rs100 million legal notice and demanded a written apology within a fortnight for allegedly damaging his reputation, local media quoting British sources reported on Tuesday.
Dr Rehman, through the notice sent through Advocate Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, has sought a written and unconditional apology, clarifications in media and Rs100 million as ‘damages’ for causing him mental strain, agony, discomfort, insult, anxiety, inconvenience and damage to his repute.
London-based psychiatrist Dr Rehman, who married Reham on 23 July 1992 and divorced her in July 2007, stated that his ex-wife’s media interviews resulted in an economic loss to him as he lost his employment as a direct consequence. Further, he said he had been forced to answer questions of his relatives, colleagues and other people because of her statements against him.
Reham leveled baseless allegations and passed defamatory remarks against her ex-husband in different interviews, Dr Rehman’s counsel said.
The notice directed the broadcast journalist to meet the demands within 14 days.Jahangiri warned if Reham failed to comply with the notice, he had instructions from his client to take her to courts of civil and criminal jurisdictions at her own risk with cost and consequences.
Earlier in her interviews following her marriage to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Reham had alleged she had been a victim of domestic violence during her marriage to the 54-year-old psychiatrist with whom she has three children.
However, talking to Pakistani media, Rehman rubbished Reham’s claims.Further, in an interview to Daily Mail, Dr Rehman had said that Reham used him “like toilet paper to clean up her image” after she found herself harshly criticised by traditionalists in Pakistan who saw Imran’s bride as far too Westernised.
