ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) while expressing its determination to fight against terrorism has regretted that the global efforts for eradicating the menace aren’t working.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Gargash, while addressing a news conference here Sunday evening at a local hotel, said that world needs to do more to counter the menace of terrorism and extremism. The minister who is also minister for Federal National Council came down heavily on Iran for its interference in the Arab affairs and said that it is trying to create division among the ranks of Arab countries on the basis of sectarianism.
The UAE minister expressed his protected satisfaction about the outcome of Yemen conflict and said that most of the goals for the military operation in that country have been achieved. “The legitimate government of Yemen doesn’t exist in a Riyadh hotel but very placed in Eden. Although it’s a weak government but it is working from Yemen capital,” he said.
He claimed that Iran has been fomenting hatred among the people of Yemen as it had been doing in Lebanon where it is pumping $1 billion every year through Hizbollah. He said that Iranian-provided dollars are more visible in Lebanon than Dirhams. The UAE state minister wasn’t optimistic about the outcome of talks in Switzerland about Yemen next month and said that world lords would be negotiating each other and one shouldn’t expect positive outcome. He regretted that world didn’t give attention to the Yemen problem as it devoted for Syria, Iraq and Libya. He said that problem of Syria is getting complicated with every passing day.
“The more interference in Syria would make the situation further complicated,” he observed. The world must not allow Syria to collapse as once it is collapsed, nothing can restore it and it will be catastrophic for the region, he added. The minister vowed to continue support for economic stability of Egypt. To a question, he made it clear that his country hasn’t changed its policy towards Israel.
Earlier the minister took to twitter on Sunday to criticise Iranian media for “promoting Muslim Brotherhood rumours”. In a tweet, he said: “The content published by Iranian media against the UAE relies on the material used in the Muslim Brotherhood’s media channels. They are all Brotherhood rumours being promoted by Tehran media.” In another tweet, he said the current escalation of the Iranian media against the UAE “is a predicted reaction to the unique nature of the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the UAE and the active role of the UAE in Yemen”.
