NA faces quorum problem again

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly continued to face problem of lack quorum as the session was prorogued on Friday without executing the legislative business.
The legislative business also could not be taken up on Thursday as the opposition parties seemed to have decided not to cooperate with the treasury benches on completing quorum in the House.
Sher Akbar Khan of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) pointed out lack of quorum in the House when the Government was about to take up legislative business. To start with, Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi, who was chairing the proceedings, did not pay heed to him.
On that the members from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also stood in their seats and started making noise in the House. The chair directed the National Assembly staff to count number of members. In the meantime, the PPP and PTI members left to ensure that the quorum is incomplete in the House.
The deputy speaker read prorogation orders after he was informed that the required number of members were not present. As a result, the legislative business including the Pakistan Halal Authority Bill which was deferred on Wednesday could not be executed.
Dr Ibadullah and Naeema Kishwar of the JUI-F on points of order condemned the attack on Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani on Thursday. They demanded investigations and compensation for those killed in the incident. The House also offered Fateha for departed souls of those died in attack.
