Islamabad: Tackling elevated crime and social disorder in society requires joint efforts of community and police.
This was stated by Director Gender Crime Cell, National Police Bureau (NPB), Abbass Hussain Malik while speaking at the launching ceremony of a handbook on 'Community Policing' organised by the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI), with the support of Friedrich Naumann Foundation and European Union, on Wednesday.
The event was attended by a diverse audience, comprising citizens from different walks of life, who participated actively in the discussion. Senior police officials, including AIG Operations Islamabad Asher Hameed, AIG Police AJK Faheem Ahmed Khan, DIG Crime Branch Karachi Azhar Rasheed Khan, SSP Investigation KPK Abdul Rasheed Khan, SP Crime Branch Islamabad Zubair Sheikh and DSP VIP Security Rawalpindi Shamshad Akhtar shared their expert insights on the subject.
CPDI Programme Manager Bilal Saeed delivered a presentation to provide an overview of the handbook on community policing to the participants. Bilal discussed the pros and cons of various community policing initiatives undertaken across the country and expressed his hope that police would adopt the indigenised framework on community policing presented in the publication.
Deputy Director of Gender Crime Cell Mahreen Maqsood thoroughly explained various initiatives of NPB underway, directed to uplift the image of police and implement community policing in the country. Mahreen also expressed the possibility of collaborated efforts with CPDI to take forward community policing in Pakistan.
