CM, corps commander review security after attack on Rangers

Two hours after a deadly attack left four paramilitary soldiers dead in the city on Friday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Corps Commander Karachi Lt-General Naveed Mukhtar reviewed progress in implementing the National Action Plan to fight terrorism.
During their meeting at the CM House, the top military and civilian authorities of the province also discussed the law and order situation, special security and administrative measures taken to manage the local government elections under way in Sindh, the ongoing the targeted operation against terrorists and other criminals involved in heinous crimes in the city.
A day before polling for the second phase of the local government elections on Thursday, Qaim had held a similar meeting with Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar to review security arrangements for the polling day.
CM slams attack
Chief Minister Shah condemned the terrorist attack that killed four Rangers personnel in Baldia Town, and said such cowardly attacks could not stop the forces from continuing their targeted operation against terrorists.
Soon after the incident, he contacted by phone Major General Bilal Akbar and shared his deep sorrow over the loss of the lives of four Rangers Jawaans while performing their duties.
He expressed sympathies with the family members of the slain personnel, and announced Rs2 million in compensation for the heirs of each of the fallen soldiers. Shah also telephoned Inspector General of Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali, and directed him to ensure early arrest of the culprits.
He directed that the cases of the culprits should be tried in an anti-terrorism court after a thorough investigation.
Jamali was also told to increase patrolling and checking on roads and to prepare an effective strategy for the safety of police and Rangers personnel when they were in mobiles or at pickets or check points.
The chief minister also ordered expanding the intelligence network effectively and sharing information to arrest terrorists before they could carry out any terror attacks.
‘Fight to continue’
Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan condemned in the attack on the Rangers personnel, saying that the incident would strengthen the resolve of the government and law-enforcement agencies to continue with the targeted operation in the city till the catching or the killing of last criminal.
He said such dastardly attacks would not weaken the resolve of the law enforcers, who would continue their selfless fight against terrorists and anti-social elements in the country.
