PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was adjourned on Monday without any proceedings due to lack of quorum as it met after a break of more than a month. Speaker Asad Qaiser adjourned the session after recitation from the Holy Quran when a member of the provincial assembly pointed out to the lack of quorum. The speaker ordered ringing of the bell when it became clear that there were only 17 members in the House. However, the ringing of the bell failed to do the trick as the number of MPAs present in the assembly didn’t meet the requirement of the quorum. The speaker adjourned the session and summoned it to meet today at 3pm. Meanwhile, a demonstration was held outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly by the protesting workers of the Bilour Match Factory. The protestors included contractors who had supplied raw material to the factory. The protesters holding banners and placards demanded the payment of their salaries. Some of the protesters said they had supplied poplar and other raw material to the Bilour Match Factory, but its management didn’t pay their dues and had closed the factory. They alleged the influential Bilour family was using delaying tactics and was not making payment to them. The protesters asked the government and the elected public representatives to ask the factory management to pay the pending amount. Some of the protestors had some time back held a press conference to highlight their demands. The Bilour family had also published an advertisement in newspaper to clarify that the four Bilour brothers were running their separate businesses and that it will take legal action against anyone accusing the whole Bilour family of any wrongdoing.
