PHOOLNAGAR: All eyes are on Union Council 102 (Lambay Jageer) as four relatives, including the Punjab Assembly speaker’s son, are contesting against each other for the chairman slot.
They are former Kasur district nazim Rana Imtiaz of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, his nephews Rana Mehmood Iqbal Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Rana Naeem Riaz (independent) and cousin Rana Rab Nawaz Khan (independent).
The voters are confused as all the candidates belong to the Rana family. Two of the four candidates - Rana Imtiaz and Rana Naeem Riaz - are living in a same house - Gulzar Palace - and they have also set up their election offices in the same house and are working day and night to win support of the voters.
The third candidate, Rana Mehmood Iqbal Khan, son of Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal Khan, is reportedly enjoying full government support and using all available government resources to win the election. The fourth candidate, Rana Rab Nawaz Khan, is new in the politics and is the son of Rana Bagh Khan, brother of Rana Phool Muhammad Khan.
Rana Naeem Riaz Khan is trying to woo the voters by giving Jalebi packets to the people in his door-to-door campaign. Jalebi is always available in his election offices at Purnawa, Megha Morr and Kamongill. After the success of Jalebi politics, Rana Mehmood Iqbal Khan and Rana Imtiaz have also started the same. However, Rana Rab Nawaz Khan is reluctant to start the Jalebi politics.
