Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Babur Girgin inaugurated the Turkey Access Centre at The Millennium University College (TMUC), H-11/4, and delivered one hour talk on Pakistan-Turkey relations for the students, says a press release.
The ceremony commenced with the playing of national anthems of Turkey and Pakistan after which a student welcomed the guest in Turkish language. Later, Faisal Mushtaq, rector of the TMUC, took the rostrum to give an overview of the ambassador’s professional achievements and personal efforts to fortify Pakistan-Turkey relations.
Speaking on the occasion, the Turkish ambassador said that the people of both countries share a bond of friendship. He recounted several moments from history where governments and people of both countries stood steadfast by each other’s side in their times of need.
Speaking about both nations’ struggle for independence, Babur Girgin informed students that Allama Iqbal and Mehmed Akif, the leading national poets, were in correspondence with each other and shared their views on freedom for their nations that fought for independence. He further added that by learning from each other’s experiences the governments of both countries can make a tangible impact on meeting their respective challenges.
In his concluding note, he felicitated Faisal Mushtaq and his team for setting up a world-class institution in Pakistan while expressing his desire that academic institutions in Pakistan and Turkey employ their efforts in making educational programmes bilaterally accessible for students.
The ambassador’s address was followed a half-hour question-answer session in which students asked various pertinent questions on Pak-Turkey relations. After interacting with students, the ambassador inaugurated the Turkey Access Centre which will serve as a gateway for students between Turkey and Pakistan, both culturally and academically.
