SZH paramedics continue strike

LAHORE
Shaikh Zaid Hospital paramedics continued their strike on Sunday against what they called privatisation of hospital by running it through a board of trustees.
The paramedics have been on strike for the last one month and holding protest demonstration and sit-ins in front of Administration Block of the hospital. They also forcibly closed down emergency and outdoor of the hospital, which multiplied the miseries of the poor patients already crumbling under the burden of poverty and disease. Besides, they also stopped the janitorial staff to clean the hospital and thrown heaps of garbage in OPD, Gyne ward and in front of chairman’s office, which has left stinking smell in the hospital.
The paramedics carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demands chanted slogans against the Punjab government, Health Department and hospital administration for handing over the hospital to a trust. They demanded of the government to stop privatisation of the hospital without any delay.
Meanwhile, the Young Doctors Association (YDA), Pakistan, General Secretary Dr Salman Kazmi informed that one group of paramedics of Shaikh Zayed Hospital filed a petition in Lahore High Court against the other group of paramedics and the court directed the secretary health to resolve the matter of strike of paramedics..
The Health Department will hold a meeting with paramedics of SZH at secretary health’s office on Monday (today).
