SWABI: The Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP) on Saturday terminated the basic membership of Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Babar Khan, it was learnt.
Babar Khan, son of late Dr Muhammad Salim (founder of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz), contested the 2013 general elections on AJIP ticket.
He emerged victorious and defeated Awami National Party candidate Gul Zamin Shah by a huge margin.
Babar Khan developed differences with AJIP leadership when Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government decided to replace the two ministers of Qaumi Watan Party, who were sacked on corruption charges.
He accused Senior Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, who is head of the AJIP, of ignoring him.
Though Babar Khan was offered the slot of the advisor, he refused to accept it.
It was learnt that Babar Khan, who is chairman of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz, had decided to merge his party into AJIP. However, he dropped the idea when his relations soured with Shahram Khan.
The show-cause notice issued from the Tarakai House to Babar Khan was made available to this correspondent.
It said, “You were required to reply to the show-cause notice issued on 7 August 2015, but you didn’t bother to do so. Therefore your membership is terminated.”
Efforts were made to contact Babar Khan for his comments, but his cellphone was switched off.
