PESHAWAR: Human rights activists Saturday staged demonstration in connection with the World Day against the Death Penalty and demanded an end to capital punishment in the country.
Led by Shahidullah Jan and Muhammad Qasim of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, the activists gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahidullah, Qasim and others said that sometimes the accused got death penalty due to weak judicial system and lack of evidence. They said some accused cannot afford to pay lawyers and as a result they get death penalty. They demanded reforms in courts to prevent hanging of innocent people.
