MANSEHRA: The Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Erra) has reconstructed 75 percent of infrastructure destroyed during the 2005 earthquake in the district.
Mansehra was the worst hit district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in October 8, 2005 earthquake as 70 percent of its infrastructure was razed to the ground. In Balakot alone, more than 30,000 people lost their lives.
A summary sheet of reconstruction issued on the 10th anniversary of the tragedy and a copy of which was obtained by this correspondent revealed that Erra was yet to reconstruct 25 percent of infrastructure in the district.
A total of 2698 buildings were destroyed in the earthquake. In the health sector, a total of 1214 schools and educational institutions were destroyed in the unmatched tragedy in the recent past and 777 of them were reconstructed. In environment sector, 194 buildings were destroyed while 89 have been rebuilt.
In governance sector, 88 of 112 buildings were reconstructed. In health sector 27 of 43 hospitals were reconstructed. In livelihood sector, 280 buildings were destroyed and reconstruction of 226 was completed.
In social protection sector, two buildings were destroyed and none could be reconstructed. In transport sector, 57 buildings and facilities were destroyed and 16 were reconstructed. In water and sanitation sector, 791 buildings were destroyed and 782 were reconstructed.
