Adviser fears spike in Covid-19 cases if social distancing ignored

PESHAWAR: Adviser on Information and Public Relations Ajmal Wazir visited the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) on the third day of Eid.

HMC Medical Director Dr Shehzad Akbar briefed him on the latest situation on coronavirus epidemic, said an official handout. Ajmal Wazir also met doctors, nurses and paramedics besides other staff members fighting on the frontline against coronavirus. Speaking on the occasion, he said the doctors, nurses and paramedics are fighting on the frontline against coronavirus.

The adviser added that the purpose of the visit was to encourage and appreciate efforts of the HMC medical staff. he advisor said he had visited the facility on special directives of Chief Minister Mehmood Khan to express solidarity with the health workers. Ajmal Wazir remembered and paid tributes to Professor Dr Javed who had lost his life while helping patients suffering from Covid-19. He said that despite limited resources, KP’s health system did an exemplary job, adding the HMC became the first facility where its doctors donated plasma. The adviser said besides people from the medical profession, journalists also donated plasma for the patient. The adviser appealed to all those who had recovered from Covid-19 to donate plasma for the recovery of other patients so that the number of patients suffering from this disease in the hospitals could be reduced, adding a setup was in place in HMC. He said the patients from across KP and Afghanistan were being treated at the Peshawar hospitals while doctors, paramedics and other medical staff endangered own lives while taking care of patients who tested positive for Covid-19.The adviser said the entire nation, especially KP residents, should follow the guidelines issued by the government. The adviser wanted that the number of people with Covid-19 could rise if the population did not follow the SOPs, fearing the problems for the health workers. Talking to the media persons, he said Eid was celebrated with simplicity after the directives issued by the chief minister and the Eid was named after the martyrs of the plane crash in Karachi, late Professor Dr Javed and other martyrs of coronavirus.

The adviser said people should follow social distancing and other precautionary measures to defeat Covid-19. “We united during earthquakes, floods, also fought terrorism and by the grace of Allah we will fight coronavirus by following social distancing and other precautions,” he said. The adviser inquired about the health of journalist Fakhruddin Syed. He said journalists were playing a pivotal role in raising awareness about coronavirus by putting own lives at risk.
