Eid management

After every Eidul Azha, we grapple with sanitation issues. Given the enormous number of animals sacrificed in the country, with people taking no interest to maintain cleanliness in cities, the task for municipalities to dispose of offal and animal waste is no doubt gigantic. No amount of effort can succeed in maintaining sanitation unless we realise the importance of cleanliness.
This is the reason that, despite almost two weeks since Eid, we are still seeing heaps of stinking garbage at every nook and corner of Karachi. And one is sure that this situation persists in other cities and towns of the country as well. This is why perhaps we have seen a rise in throat infection and other such diseases, especially in children, in recent days. There is a need to allocate some area away from residential spaces where animals can be sacrificed as is done in other countries of the world so that poor city dwellers are spared these nauseating sights and smells. And there is always room for improvement in the services provided by our municipalities in maintaining cleanliness.
