LAHORE
Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said United Nations had become a toy in the hands of US and other big powers due to which its position as a world body had become controversial.
Any increase in UN Security Council’s membership is completely unjustified since the existing members have badly failed to deliver justice to the weak nations, rather a complete restructuring of the United Nations should be done in view of its failure to resolve the problems of the Muslim world, Siraj said while talking to the members of the Standing Committees of JI central Shoora at Mansoora on Thursday.
He stressed that war mongering India must not become a member of the UN Security Council under any circumstances. He noted that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had rightfully presented the nation’s sentiments regarding Kashmir issue in UN General Assembly.
The JI chief expressed satisfaction over the hoisting of the Palestine flag at the UN for the first time and greeted the Palestinians on this success. He demanded of the UN take concrete steps for the liberation of Palestine from Israel occupation and accept her as a permanent member.
Sirajul Haq said the US and world powers had always used the UN for their own interests. He said that the UN Security Council should not be the club of the big powers. The world body must prove itself an undisputed and trustable body for guaranteeing world peace, he added.
He said for decades, the UN had simply acted as a reporting agency and a silent spectator of events while big powers perpetrated untold oppression on the small states. He said it was the UN’s duty to stop big powers from tyranny and injustice but it had not fulfilled its duty.
Sirajul Haq said in most cases, the UN had simply been toeing the line adopted by the US and other world powers. He said seven lakh Indian troops had kept the Kashmiris as slaves for last six decades on gun point. Lakhs of Kashmiris had sacrificed their lives in their struggle for freedom while lakhs were suffering in jails but the UN had completely failed to implement its resolutions on Kashmir.
Referring to the situation in Afghanistan, he said that both Afghanistan and Pakistan needed peace. He said this was time for solving issues through dialogue and not grabbing powers through armed struggle. As such, he said, the two sides should resolve their issues through dialogue.
He said that exit of all foreign troops was essential to restore peace in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the JI chief visited the residence of Haji Mian Riaz Ahmed, who was martyred in Mina, and expressed his deep condolences with the bereaved family.
