LAHORE
The residents of Santnagar, near the Commissioner’s office, have been suffering owing to shortage of water and their pain persisted even during Eidul Azha holidays; courtesy Wasa.
The tube-well installed in the local Islamia ground, in the constituency of MPA Majid Zahoor, was left incomplete by the Wasa officials in early June this year for reasons best known to those at the helm. Since the Wasa authorities did not give finishing touches to the tube-well for several months now, its structure has started to deteriorate gradually and resulting into a waste of public money, but who cares?
Interestingly, the panel through which electricity is supplied to the tube-well has been left outside in the open which has been posing a serious threat to the locals as children play in the ground but to no avail. As the tube-well machinery room has been left incomplete the place has become a favourite spot for drug addicts and many of them could be seen inside during day or night time.
Ever since the tube-well has been installed it has been working irregularly because of one fault or the other but primarily because of the power supply fault as its panel has been left outside. The power supply to the tube-well was disconnected a couple of days before Eid but it was restored. On the second day of Eid (Saturday), the fault developed again and it was not fixed till filing of his report.
When contacted, SDO of Wasa for the area Ch Azmat said he was recently posted and had no idea as to why the tube-well was left incomplete. He said he was now aware of the problem and would be addressing the same on the immediate basis from Monday (today).
Ch Azmat said the electricity panel would also be installed inside the room of the tube-well to avoid any untoward incident.
