Fifteen people, including three women, lost their lives in various parts of the city during the three days of Eidul Azha.
A 36-year-old woman was burnt alive while cooking food in her house in the Racecourse police area on the first day of Eid.
The woman was identified as Nasreen Akhtar, wife of Bashir Ahmad, a resident of 152/B 186 Ahatta Haji Musa, Habibullah Road. Police said Nasreen was engrossed in cooking when her clothes caught fire. She sensed something wrong and raised alarm. The house inmates rushed to the kitchen and shifted her to a local hospital where she died. Police handed the body over to her family.
A 29-year-old man was recovered dead from a showroom in Samanabad on Friday. He was identified as Ahmad Abdul Rehman alias Mani of Bank Colony, Chah Jammu Wala, New Samanabad. The victim’s sister Aneeka Ahmad, wife of Haider Ali Jafri, resident of 63/A Punjab Society Township, received a call from her brother Aqib, who lived in America, that his paternal cousin Kashif had telephoned him and informed him about the sudden demise of Ahmad. On which she contacted Kashif who told her that he was present at Mayo Hospital where Ahmad was admitted.
According to Aneeka, Ahmad had informed her on Chand Raat that he had a severe fight with one Imran and Syed Hassan over a monetary issue. She alleged that Imran and Syed Hassan Jafri, owner of the showroom were involved in the murder of her brother. Police shifted the body to morgue and registered a murder case on the complaint of Aneeka.
A 16-year-old youth was shot dead by two unidentified persons in the Sabzazar area on Friday.
The victim identified as Ahmad Usman hailed from Faisalabad. He was a motorcycle mechanic and lived with his cousin Khalil Ahmad in Qazi Town Multan Road. On the day of the incident, he along with his friend Imran was standing in front of a shop in Sabzazar when one of the two persons, who were engaged in an exchange of hot words, whipped out his weapon and shot at him. As a result, Ahmad received a fatal wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died. Police shifted the body to morgue and registered a murder case against the unidentified killers.
A six-month-old boy died under mysterious circumstances in the Sabzazar area on Friday. The boy was identified as Adil, son of Sajid of Green Town. Sajid’s wife along with her six-month-old son had been living in the house of her parents in Sabzazar for last month where the boy died of some medical complications. However, the boy’s father Sajid raised doubts about the sudden death of his son and accused his in-laws of being involved in his death. On which the police detained the in-laws of Sajid and during the course of inquiry found that the boy had died of some medical complications. Police handed the body over to the family after resolving the issue.
A 30-year-old man was found dead in the limits of Lyton Road police area on Friday. Some passersby spotted the body of a man lying near Chuburji Chowk and informed the police. The man, yet to be identified, was an addict who might have died of excessive use of drugs, police claimed. Yet in another incident, a 45-year-old man was recovered dead from Data Darbar police station area. Mozang and Sabzazar police recovered bodies of two men from their limits on Sunday. Both the men were declared addicts who, according to the police, had died of excessive use of drugs. Sabzazar police identified the man as Ali Raza Butt of Shah Farid Darbar Sabzazar. Police recovered his body from Fawara Chowk Scheme Morr. Bodies were shifted to morgue.
A father of two children was shot dead by some unidentified persons in the Gulshan Ravi area on Saturday. He was identified as Nasir Ghori of Muqadas Park. Some locals spotted the body of Nasir lying in a pool of blood in the street and informed the police. The victim was on his way to bazaar when he was shot dead. Police recovered the murder weapon which was wrapped in a handkerchief and lying near the body. Police said it was yet to be ascertained whether Nasir had been murdered or he committed suicide. Police shifted the body to morgue and registered a murder case.
A 45-year-old security guard was shot dead by some unidentified persons in C Block Gulberg on Sunday. The victim identified as Mohammad Ejaz served as a security guard at the office of a sugar mill. On the day of the incident, some unidentified persons approached him at his workplace, tied up his hands and feet with ropes and shot him to death. Police shifted the body to morgue and registered a case against the unidentified assailants.
A rickshaw driver and his three passengers were killed by a moving train on Adiyan Road Rana Town Shahdara on Sunday. They were identified as Sajida, 40, her son Awais, 12, her mother Rehmat Bibi, 70, and the rickshaw driver Tahir Mahmood, 40. Police said that the rickshaw driver Tahir had tried to cross the rail tracks before the phattak was closed when a moving train hit his vehicle. As a result, all the four died on the spot. Bodies were removed to morgue.
A father of three children was shot dead by the paramour of his wife in the Kot Lakhpat area on Sunday. The victim identified as Hashim dealt in furniture business and lived at the back of LGH Kot Lakhpat. On the day of the incident, he along with other family members was sitting in the courtyard of his house when the accused identified as Javed entered his house and shot Hashim to death. Police said that the accused Javed had illicit relations with the victim’s wife Shazia who was repeatedly requested by her husband to cut off her extramarital relations with Javed but she never paid heed to his requests. On the contrary, she had instigated her paramour to kill him so that they could pass a happy life and he did so. Police shifted the body to morgue and registered a murder case against Shazia and her paramour Javed on the complaint of the victim’s brother Asim Shahzad. Police arrested Shazia while raids were being conducted for the arrest of her paramour.
