The Sindh Local Government Department has made it clear to the authorities concerned that the garbage disposal work should not be halted in Karachi, in particular, and the rest of the province during the COVID-19 lockdown.
This was said in a meeting chaired by Sindh Local Government Secretary Roshan Ali Shaikh via video link on the issue of the garbage disposal in the province during the COVID-19 emergency.
The local government secretary asked the relevant officials in the meeting to continue with the disposal of the municipal waste from the designated spots being used as garbage dumps for the sake of public safety.
He said officials found guilty of dereliction of duty in this regard would be dealt with strictly for endangering the safety of the public. He said the Sindh Local Government Department, its subsidiary municipal agencies and their staffers should work round-the-clock to do the waste disposal work.
He said the instructions had been passed on to the managing director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board to do the work round-the-clock to do the waste disposal in the province.
The LG secretary said the deputy commissioners and the municipal commissioners in different districts had been directed to take emergency measures in their respective jurisdictions to do the waste disposal work. He said the union committees, the district administrations, and the deputy commissioners had to work together to do the waste disposal work in their respective areas to protect public health.
He said it was the utmost resolve of the government to provide mandatory municipal servicesto the residents of the province without any interruption during the COVID-19 emergency.
The LG secretary said the Sindh Local Government Department’ staffers along with the workers in its subsidiary municipal agencies had been doing their best to render the compulsory civic services for the residents of the province.
