Sony PlayStation State of Play reveals 'Castlevania' and 'Metal Gear' return
During the Sony Playstation State of Play event, Sony showcased announcements from first party and third party studios
The latest Sony Playstation State of Play event delivered a packed lineup of new titles, remakes and surprise releases for PlayStation 5, signaling a major year ahead for Sony’s console.
During the hour-long livestream on February 12, 2026, Sony showcased announcements from first party and third party studios.
While fans expect updates on Marvel’s Wolverine, the title did not appear during the broadcast.
According to Mashable, the wide range of announcements justified the event’s lengthy runtime. The biggest moment comes at the end when Sony Santa Monica unveiled two new God of War projects.
God of War: Sons of Sparta, a 2D side scrolling prequel focused on Kratos’s Spartan past, launches immediately after the event.
IGN reports that the pixel art style and action gameplay offers a fresh take on the franchise.
Sony also confirmed a full remake of the original God of War trilogy, scheduled for release on August 6, 2026.
Konami is also making a major return with Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, set for 2026 in celebration of the series’ 40th anniversary.
Meanwhile, The Verge highlights the announcement of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection 2, bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker to modern platforms on August 27, 2026.
