Rangers personnel on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the killings of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Manzar Imam, two paramilitary soldiers and DSP Nawaz Ranjha.
Muhammad Ashiq, the alleged murderer of MPA Manzar Imam, was arrested by paramilitary soldiers in a raid in Taiser Town. He was brought to an anti-terrorism court, which placed him in Rangers’ custody under 90-day preventive detention.
According to Rangers officials, Ashiq is affiliated with the MQM’s Unit 120 and has
confessed to his involvement in the murder
of MPA Imam and his guards on January 17, 2013.
He is also believed to have been involved in the killings of 12 people of rival political parties in Karachi.
The Rangers’ spokesman said he dumped the bodies of his victims in different areas of the city from ambulances of the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundaiton, on May 12, 2007.
The Rangers arrested two more target killers, also affiliated with the MQM.
One of the suspects identified as Sheikh alias Sheru is said to be affiliated with the MQM’s Lyari Sector’s Unit 32.
The Rangers’ spokesman said Sheru admitted to his involvement in the murders of two Rangers men and DSP Nawaz Ranjah, among other heinous crimes.
The other suspect was identified as Shakeel alias Baba, who is affiliated with the MQM’s North Nazimabad Sector’s Unit 173. It was claimed that Shakeel confessed to his involvement in 46 cases of target killings driven by ethnic and political motives.
The spokesman said paramilitary troops produced the two suspects in an anti-terrorism court after conducting their JIT, and the court had remanded them.

MQM men remanded
Three alleged target killers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were remanded to the Rangers and police custody by an anti-terrorism court ((ATC) on Wednesday.
Ashiq Hussain, handed over to the Rangers for 90 days, was arrested from Taiser Town and produced in the ATC a few hours after his arrest for allegedly having killed member provincial assembly of the MQM, Syed Manzar Imam.
Hussain was also said to be involved in the May 12. 2007, violence in Karachi.
However, the responsibility for Imam’s killing, shot dead by six unidentified gunmen in Orangi Town on January 16 2013, was accepted by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Imam was attacked while he was leaving his house. He was shot eight times and succumbed to his injuries while on the way to the hospital.
Three of his security guards were also injured in the incident.
Arrested earlier this year, a member of MQM unit 173/A of North Nazimabad, Shakeel alias Baba, was remanded to the officials of the New Town police station for 14 days after the expiration of his 90-day preventive detention.
During his detention, he had confessed killing around 46 people on sectarian grounds including an activist of the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), Adeel Gul.
Another activist of the MQM, belonging to Unit 32/A of Lyari, Shaikh Ilyas alias Sheru,
was also remanded to police officials for 14 days.
He was said to have admitted during his preventive detention to killing DSP Nawaz Ranjha and two soldiers of the paramilitary force.
