In two new administrative orders, Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani issued guidelines for the distribution of ration and allowed bakeries to operate from 8am till 5pm throughout the city.
The commissioner issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the distribution of rations to the needy families during the lockdown regime. The rations bags to be distributed by the Sindh government would include 10-kilogramme flour bag, five kg rice, two kg sugar, two litre cooking oil, pulses, gram, spices and one packet of salt.
“Only house to house distribution will be made from 5am to 7am or late night.” The distribution would be made on an equitable basis focusing on the poorest union councils, needy or underprivileged segments of the society.
The commissioner also directed all the supermarkets and superstores to strictly follow the social distancing guidelines. “No joyriding is allowed, and anyone coming out of their house must have a valid reason,” according to the order issued on Friday. The order further allowed home deliveries and takeaways of any sort.
