Sindh govt urged to transport KP’s stranded mineworkers to hometowns

Awami National Party Sindh chapter chief Shahi Syed on Thursday demanded of the provincial government to devise a strategy to transport thousands of mineworkers who were stranded in the Jamshoro district because of the lockdown to their hometowns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Thousands of labourers working in the mines in District Jamshoro had been stuck and unemployed because of the closure of mines. Syed said there were over 25,000 labourers working in various mines in Jamshoro and around 20,000 of them belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s various districts, particularly Shangla.

“They have been stranded for the past two weeks, and due to the closure of mines, they are sitting unemployed,” said the ANP leader. The mineworkers, who are daily-wagers, were now more worried after the lockdown had been extended till April 14, he added. “They want to go back to their hometowns, but due to the lockdown, it has become impossible,” he said.
