Lawyer killed, cop injured in Karak firing
KARAK: A lawyer was killed and a policeman sustained injuries when rivals traded fire in Speena Banda area in the limits of Karak Police Station.
A police statement said on Sunday said Gul Rauf advocate had come to his native town Speena Banda to meet his family. It said later he along with the police guards went to his ancestral graveyard where his rivals opened fire on them. As a result, Gul Rauf advocate and a cop identified as Humayun sustained critical injuries. They were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, Karak, where Gul Rauf succumbed to his injuries. The police guards were provided to the lawyer on the directives of a court in Karak. Soon after the incident, District Police Officer Nausher Khan Mohmand sent police contingents to the troubled spot and launched a search in the area. Two accused identified as Muhammad Rasool and his son Muhammad Riaz were arrested. It was learnt that the police also found the body of Noor Tayaz, son of Muhammad Rasool, and a rifle and a pistol lying beside it. The police said that Sabir Nawaz, Noor Tayaz, Muhammad Riaz, Zakirullah, Rizwan, Sher Nawaz and Muhammad Rasool had opened fire on the police guards, who were providing security to Gul Rauf advocate. The police said Gul Rauf advocate and Noor Tayaz groups had an enmity.
