Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din has said that women are working side by side with men in all sectors of life and playing an important role in the economic development of the country.
She was speaking at a signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Women Development Department and OXFAM for cooperation in economic empowerment of women, elimination of gender discrimination, awareness about rights and roadmap for better social rights for women at Darbar Hall of the Civil Secretariat on Thursday. Provincial Secretary Dr. Amina Imam, Country Director of OXFAM Arif Jabbar Khan, Associate Country Director Saleema Munir, Programme Manager, Director Aurat Foundation Mumtaz Mughal and others were present. Country Director of OXFAM Arif Jabbar highlighted the aims and objectives of the organisation and programme for elimination of poverty in 90 countries and improvement of image of the women. Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din said there was a need for changing the mindset in developing countries for the elimination of gender discrimination and socio-economic empowerment of women. She further said that signing of MoU would help both institutions in the elimination of discrimination against women, awareness about their rights, setting up of a research centre.
