PU to receive online forms of affiliated colleges

LAHORE:For the first time Punjab University (PU) Examinations Department will receive admission forms of students of affiliated colleges online in various degrees.

The measure has been taken on the directions of PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad to facilitate students and administrative staff of affiliated colleges, who had to visit the university’s New Campus for this purpose from various parts of the country.

In this regard, the PU VC presided over a meeting at the office of Controller of Examinations here Monday. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Controller of Examinations Rauf Nawaz, Additional Controller Raja Shahid Javed, Deputy Controller Khurram Inayat and others attended the meeting.

Briefing the meeting, Rauf Nawaz said around 100,000 students of Associate Degree in Commerce, BCom Part 1 & 2, MA/MSc Part-1 & 2, LLB three-year programme’s Part-1 supplementary, Part 2 & 3 and LLB five-year programme’s Part-1, 2 and 3 would submit their registration forms through online system this year.

He said a pilot project of the online system had been tested on the students of affiliated colleges in BS 4-year programme and around 7,500 admission forms were received online in January this year.

Prof Niaz Ahmad directed the administration to make the whole system online in order to facilitate more 500,000 regular and private students of PU every year. He said the digitalisation would help to minimise usage of papers at large scale that it would contribute towards betterment of environment as well.

LGH grid station: The new grid station of Lahore General Hospital has become functional while the project has completed at cost of Rs11 crore making it possible to provide uninterrupted power supply to the hospital. Postgraduate Medical Institute & Amiruddin Medical College Principal Prof Sardar Muhammad Al-Fareed Zafar has thanked the Punjab government, especially the Provincial Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid for the timely construction and completion of this new grid station.

General Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Mahmood Salahuddin, Director Emergency Dr Rana Muhammad Shafiq and Electrical Engineer Zafar Mukhtar were also present on the occasion.

Principal Prof Al-Fareed Zafar said that the Lahore General Hospital would get direct electricity of 132-kv from national grid station.
